ULYSSES S. GRANT STATUE UNVEILING
1899
PHILADELPHIA, PA

Most issues of this general type were of official nature. Local statues and monuments usually were financed by public contributions. Considerable revenue often was derived from sale of medals and other souvenirs commemorating event. Statue is bronze; stands in east section Fairmount Park at East River and Fountain Green Drives; sculptors were Daniel Chester French and Edward Potter; unveiled April 27, 1899.
