United States Navy World Voyage - 1908

Medals commemorate visit to San Diego of United States Battle Fleet on its voyage around world under command of Admiral Robley D. Evans. Evans (1846-1912), known as "Fighting Bob," was Captain of first ship firing first gun against Spaniards at Santiago 1898.

TYPE I

Obverse: Within center circle is male military bust facing part r.; outside, above Robley D. Evans; outside, below San Diego 1908
Reverse: Within circle is sailing vessel; outside, above Juan R. Cabrillo; outside, below San Diego 1542

TYPE II

Obverse: Male military bust facing part r.; to l. 19, to r. 08; above bust Rear Admiral Evans; below bust "Fighting Bob"; upper border legend Souvenir Visit of U. S. Naval Fleet; lower border legend To Pacific Coast; beaded border.
Reverse: Three Battleships, setting sun with rays in background; beaded border.

Reverse: Three battleships, setting sun with rays in background; beaded border.

HK-352a - Brass Gilt, plain edge. OCTAGONAL, size 22 x 22.

TYPE IV

Obverse: Same as obverse of No. 351, except San Francisco, Cal. replaces To Pacific Coast (A die variety of No. 351 omits dots before and after To Pacific Coast).
Reverse: Same as reverse of No. 351.

HK-352b - Brass Gilt, reeded edge. Size 23.

TYPE V

Obverse: Same obverse as last, but minor differences in die.
Reverse: Same as reverse of No. 351, except U.S. Naval Fleet Entering Golden Gate appears in upper border, around.
