Elder Issues Related to Continental Dollar Restrikes

CONTINENTAL CURRENCY— CONFEDERATION DOLLARS

For reverse of this issue, Elder used the Confederation vignette which appears on $40 bills issued by the Continental Congress 1778-1779.

Obverse: - Same as obverse of No. 852.
Reverse: Confederation in ribbon around lower border; clouds around upper border; below clouds, all-seeing eye casts rays down upon flaming altar; in circle around altar are 13 eight-pointed stars; beaded border.

PERSEVERANDO DOLLAR

For obverse of this medal, Elder chose the Perseverando (by persevering) vignette which was used on $6 bills issued by the Continental Congress 1775-1778. Reverse of piece commemorates date of meeting of the Second Continental Congress and the amount of the first issue of continental currency authorized by that Congress.

Obverse: Between double circle and beaded border, Perseverando; inside double circle, beaver, standing in stream, chews on palm tree; four mountain peaks and three other trees in background.
Reverse: Within border circle, Continental Currency. 1775.; across center, Seal / Whole Amount / Issued. / 3.000.000 / May 10th

EAGLE AND HERON DOLLAR

Vignette used on $3 bills issued by the Continental Congress 1775-1777 was selected by Elder for this piece. Legend, Exitus in Dubio Est, means "The End Is in Doubt."

Obverse: Within circle, eagle grasps heron in talons; between circles around border, Exit · us · in · Dubio · Est
Reverse: Same as reverse of No. 852.
